Synopsis
In this instructional story Tia introduces Jojo to a toolbox of questions that help with mathematical problem solving. Often the struggle with mathematics is not knowing what to do next, or worrying that you don’t know the right thing to do. What Jojo learns is that there are many possible tactics to try, and the best thing to do is to try a number of tactics until you find one that seems to work. He also learns to follow a four-step problem-solving strategy devised by mathematician George Pólya:
• Understand the problem
• Devise a plan
• Carry out the plan
• Review/extend
